Other Actions
Tanning Frames (Making leather and parchment)
Making Leather: Bowl, any seed. To get a bowl of water, make a bowl(Masonry) and right click it while standing next to water. Get a seed, of any kind of plant. Drag it onto the bowl of water. This makes Tannin. Go to a tanning frame. With Fur or Skin in your inventory, double click the tanning frame to put it on. With a brush in your main hand and a bowl of tannin in your inventory, double click the fur to brush the tannin on. Double click the fur on the frame to pick it up, there's your leather.
Making Parchment: Bowl, fur. Get a bowl of water. See above. Unlike making leather, you don't need tannin. Like making leather, go to a tanning frame and place the skin on. With a brush in your main hand and a bowl of plain water in your inventory, double click the fur to make it wet. With a knife in your main hand, double click the fur to scrape the hairs off. Wait for a bit for the parchment to dry and you can remove it from the frame.
Writing on parchment: Parchment, quill, ink. See above on how to get parchment. To get a quill, use a knife on a feather. Get feathers from skinning Peeks. Ink is make using alchemy. With the quill in your main hand, right click on unused parchment to write on it. You can only write on a piece of parchment once. Read parchment with Ctrl+right-click.
Cooking
Cooking is essential for eating any kind of meat(and fish, which doesn't make too much sense). If you eat raw meat, you will lose some stamina and get a message. You need to cook your meat before you eat it, no matter how fresh it is(or even if it's fish). To do this, you need to build a Cooking Range. With meat in your inventory, double-clicking the cooking range will allow you to select something to start cooking. Cooking ranges work like forges, because you need to fuel them with logs, boards, or coal. Once meat is on the fueled range, the meat will get gradually darker. If it gets too dark, it will disappear into nothingness. Meat is decently cooked a few shades before it disappears. If you eat meat before it is cooked enough, it will be considered raw.
Child Bearing/Egg Hatching
First off, you need a nest, which is built in woodworking. You can't use an animal's nests.
Having children is simple, as long as you have someone to be your opposite gender. The female must right click the nest to lay an egg in it. The male must then right click the nest with an egg to sit on it. After a few seconds, the male gets the option to name the child.
At first, the child will be a baby. It takes a while for it to grow up into a worker. As a worker, you can give them vocal commands for them to do.
Currently, the vocal commands(used through Say) are a bit buggy so you should try not to spam them with commands or speak too quickly.
You can currently tell them to "follow [someone]", "come" to you, "attack [someone]", "mine [stuff]", "chop wood", "make bricks", "make boards", "obey [someone]", or "ignore [someone]"(after ordering to obey that someone).
There are probably other commands out there that I either forget, don't feel like listing, or just don't know of.
You can also hatch animal eggs from a nest that you build. When you have an Egg in your inventory, you can drag it with your mouse onto the nest. When Frostmelt comes, the egg will usually hatch.
Eggs have been known to not hatch. This may be due to the animal population limit.
Survival Info
Animals
Stoofs(Stooves?) are the fastest land animal. Bux and Murs are the slowest. You can mount animals by facing them and right-clicking a Harness(from Hunting) in your inventory. After you put the harness on a ridable animal, you can double click the animal to get on/off the animal. You can right click Tether Posts to post your animal there. While it's posted, it won't move anywhere.
Rars are the meanest. They will attack you pretty much as soon as they see you, and you will probably die. Easiest way to survive a Rar encounter would be to either get the <BLEEP> out of there, or shoot it down with a bow and arrow. If you're feeling brave and foolish, equip double flails and bash it to bits before it claws your face off.
Stys give Phluf when skinned. Useful during Shiverstide or Frostmelt where Phluf plants aren't able to be picked.
Killing Peeks(which is pretty hard considering they can fly over anything and constantly move pretty quickly) and skinning them gets you feathers, which you can use a knife on to make a quill. Quills are used with ink(from alchemy) and parchment to write messages. Peeks can also be double-right-clicked to be tamed. They will follow you everywhere(except into caves, unless they fly in first) and you can attach parchments to them, to be sent to anyone you know.
Murs are able to be mylked! Just face one with an udder and ctrl+right click an empty bucket or glass bottle in your inventory to start mylking. Mylk is a very good drink, for it not only quenches your thirst, but it also satisfies some hunger as well.
Food
Food is found in:
- Any natural source of water(not wells or fountains), through fishing. Double-click the water with a Fishing Rod to begin fishing.
- Land animals, through skinning. Right-click a corpse with a Knife equipped.
- Fish and meat must be cooked before consumption. Right-click the food to eat.
- Wild or farmed crops(other than Phluf) through harvesting. Double-click a crop to harvest it.
- Bushes
- Each bush gives 3 berries every Frostmelt and Bloomstide. Right-click the bush to pick a berry.
Water
Fresh water is found in
- Lakes and Ponds
- Rivers
- Desert oases
- Caves
- Wells and Fountains
All of these sources of water can be made portable through usage of
- Canteens(Hunting): 5 drinks per fill
- Bowls(Masonry): Drag a seed onto the water bowl to make Tannin
- Buckets(Woodworking): Can also hold mylk
- Bottles(Forging): Can also hold potions and mylk
Right-click the container while standing by a water source to fill it.
Water may freeze in Shiverstide. Double-click yourself with a Chisel equipped, standing by frozen water to make a hole in the ice. Stepping in it will kill you.
